Dr James Levine (medical director of the famous Mayo Clinic in the US) declared that sitting is the new smoking!!

Sitting is more dangerous than smoking, kills more people than HIV and is more treacherous than parachuting. We are sitting ourselves to death.
– Dr James Levine

Sitting, but more accurately a sedentary lifestyle, has been shown to increase risk for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast and colon cancer, kidney disease in women, chronic illness related to obesity, and most importantly – death.
So what do we do?
Well for starters, you need to get real about how much exercise you do compared to how much you sit. The MINIMUM national guidelines for aerobic exercise are 2.5 hours per week (it’s moderate to intense).
Add in 2 strength sessions and we’ve hit the average guidelines (gulp). On top of this, experts are suggesting that we should (wait for it) – stand or move for 10 minutes out of every 30…..
Sound like a lot? Well, it is…
But the good news is that attending 1VIGOR accounts for both aerobic exercise and strength sessions built into one session.
If your one of the people who’s got their hands on a MYZONE belt, you’ll be all too familiar with MEPs (MYZONE Effort Points).  The magic number of MEPs per month is 1,300 MEPs, this matches these guidelines.  Most members have only had the belt 2 weeks, with some are already hitting 2,000 MEPs, so these guidelines are definitely achievable!!
You can factor it into your lifestyle more easily than you think, including regular brisk walks and small runs.
